At any given time in each of our lives, we will encounter fires. They will consist of financial upset, marriage issues, wayward children, and the list can go on. As believers, we do what we do best; we pray and believe God for His will. We will ‘stand on the promises of God’ and weather the storm. And so we go from fire to fire doing the same. We have got it wrong in the general sense in doing it this way and will explain. The Lord is consistent in relaying to us what is essential to all who believe in Him throughout His ministry and the scriptures, and that is that we may know Him, and He knows us. Upon this, we are better equipped to navigate through the trials and tribulations of life. We go astray, in a sense, when we chase the fires seeking to put them out ahead of this. It is an easy thing to do, as we all do it, and if we were honest could see it for what we have made it into, which is self-seeking. I believe we put ourselves in danger when we reduce our faith to become this way and do well to remind ourselves what is important to God rather than what is important to us.
I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:I in them, and You in Me;that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.- John 17:20-23
Daily Walk with Jesus
Let us change our way of relating to the Lord by not asking Him for remedy or rescue from our troubles, for a season. So we would instead ask Him how we may better know Him through these same challenges. Ask Him to give us understanding of Himself and how we may identify with Him in them. We will discover that not only do we deepen our relationship with the Lord in this way, but we also will find how He takes care of the fires too! Not only this, but we will come away with revolutionary change to our faith and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ that will take our spiritual life a step higher then it once was. For we will learn what it means to be one with the Lord like never before and be addicted to the joy this gives us so we strive to seek no longer for ourselves but for Him.
